Properly Describe Your Decorative Concrete Web Site

meta-descriptions

Last week, I showed you how the title of your web page was the first, important component for getting found and properly indexed by the search engines.

The second most important component for proper use of the search engines is the description of your web page.

The description is placed in the Head section of your web page as well, and is part of what is referred to as meta-content.

Specifically this description is called the meta-description.

It is called meta because while it is an official part of your web page, it is not prominently seen by the person viewing your page.

However, it is used by the person searching for your information in Google because Google uses the meta-description on the search engine results pages as you see in the photo above.

As a local decorative concrete business, the most important piece of information to put in the description is your business phone number, and then you should describe what your web page is about – and the front page should be about your business, and the service you provide.

This makes your listing in the search engine results pages look like a listing in the phone book, and many of your potential customers are likely to call you right then and there.

If you don’t manage your own web site, then just tell your webmaster what you need.

Next time we’ll look at the third most important component of your website’s ability to be indexed properly by the search engines – links.
