Mongoose Maintenance | Engrave-A-Crete

Chris Mirabal, Engrave-A-Crete’s Senior Technical Adviser, shows you how to perform routine maintenance on Engrave-A-Crete’s decorative concrete cutting tool – The Mongoose.

Today we’re going to do a little bit of maintenance for Mongoose.

We’re going to use our tools that come in our tool bag. We have an Allen key, a wrench, and a T-handle nut driver.

A couple things that we’re going to do is we’re going to:

  • Check our brushes

From time to time you need to check the brushes of the machine just to make sure there is no blackened edges. These get changed in pairs so whenever you want to change them, or they are worn out, you change two of them. They both have a black cap with a straight slotted screwdriver. So look at them from time to time just to make sure that they are in good shape and not burning.

  • Use ShopVac With Dust Port

The other thing that you really need to make sure of is that you always cut using a ShopVac with a clean-stream air filter. It minimizes the dust getting into the armature. That way you have longer life on your machine.

  • Blade Change

To change the blade there are six screws that to take off. Use the Allen key from your depth control to remove those.

Once we remove all six, slide the blade guard cover up. These are left-threaded hub-screws so righty-tighty, left-loosey does not work in this case. Take the hub screw off.

I have a quarter inch blade here and it has a recessed arbor to fit the Mongoose. I also have a three-eighths blade, it has a recessed arbor also to fit the Mongoose. These blades, these diamond blades are directional and there’s an arrow. The arrow goes to the back side of the machine. Put our three-eighths blade in there, put our hub keeper, our left-threaded hub screw. Take our wrench again, slide it through the ball.

Then our nut driver, and just give them a little tightening. You don’t want to wrench down too hard on them because they will tighten up as you’re using. Pull our blade guard cover down, and we’re going to go ahead and put our screws back in place here.

That’s it. For more tips like this go to our blog www.engraveacrete.com/blog and I’m Chris, I’ll see you next time.
